The Royal Bath & West Show takes place this year from May 30 to June 1 at Shepton Mallet.

The show provides a great family day out with everything from the best livestock in the country, including sheep, pigs, cattle, horses, ridden hunters, and show ponies and heavy horses. Many of the exhibitors in these sections are from the Chew Valley and have won not only prizes but also championships.

The show has many regular features including pony club games, show jumping and a wonderful display of vintage vehicles, including steam-powered.

Food and drink are always popular with visitors to the show and with so many brilliant producers of food and the great number of cider makers in Somerset.

Often forgotten is the art show just off the main lawn. The method of selecting entries is done by a panel, then pieces are hung around the walls. These are then judged and awarded prizes. Then there is one final prize, the people’s choice, where all visitors are asked to choose their favourite and so often the winner of this is not one of the prize winners.

The show is truly a great family day out with plenty of retail opportunities. All this and thrilling motorbike displays.
