Two teams from Frome Town United’s youth squad are raising funds to attend a mini-European football tournament at Frome’s twin town of Murrhardt in Germany this July.

The 18 youngsters will join teams from Frome’s other twin towns, Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne in France, and Rabka-Zdrój & Rötha in Poland for the tournament, which is timed to coincide with Euro 2024. The teams from the four twin towns will also have the opportunity to travel to Stuttgart Stadium and visit the fan zones/Euro Cup event areas within Stuttgart City Centre.

Frome Town FC Chairman Lee Seviour said: “Frome Town United U-15 Boys and U-14 Girls have been offered an amazing opportunity to take part in a mini european tournament in Murrhardt, Germany between July 4-8. Frome Town United have been in talks with Philip Campagna, Mayor of Frome over the past few months and Philip has been a real influence in ensuring Frome Town United players have been given this opportunity.

“This is an amazing opportunity for the players to travel to Germany and play a seven-a-side tournament against players from Germany, France and Poland. The players are keen to represent their club and country, and to make Frome proud.

“Murrhardt will be covering the costs of accommodation and meals for the teams while we’re away, however, we will need to fund our travel to the tournament. If we are unable to raise enough money to cover these costs, we simply will be unable to attend. We’re doing lots of fundraising, including a bingo night on May 25 at the clubhouse.

“The youngsters will be looking into lots of other ways to raise the £8,000 we need. We also have a fundraising page online.”

Frome Mayor Philip Campagna said: "I am very pleased that Frome Town United have agreed to send two teams to the Football Tournament in Murrhardt. This is an excellent opportunity to forge a new partnership between Frome and our three twin towns.

“The players will gain so much from the trip and hopefully establish new links and friendships. I know that they are working hard to raise the necessary funds for the trip. It is hoped that Frome Town United may be able to host the tournament in 2025."
