The Chief Executive Officer of Age UK in Bath and North East Somerset, Simon Allen, is urging older people to check their photo ID for the upcoming local elections, expressing serious concerns that vulnerable groups will be disadvantaged by this change of regulation.

According to a study by the Electoral Commission, 3.5 million citizens in the UK do not have access to photo ID, with older people and disadvantaged communities being disproportionately affected.

Simon Allen CEO of Age UK Bath & North East Somerset said: “Voting is a crucial way for citizens to have their voices heard and hold elected officials accountable – we don’t want anyone to miss out because of this change in regulation.

"I urge all eligible voters to dig out their photo ID. It is likely that people already have one that is accepted, like a bus pass, but if not, get in touch with us at Age UK Bath & North East Somerset or B&NES Council.”

The charity, which is working with Bath & North East Somerset Council to support people in accessing VAC wants to ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process, regardless of their circumstances. Age UK Bath & North East Somerset is offering to help older people through this process by taking photos and supporting online applications.
