AVALON Camps has announced that a former volunteer has became one of their newest trustees.
Tim Weigold, 26, originally helped out at Avalon Camps as a young leader, looking after 32 lively children from some of the most underprivileged areas of Bristol.
Tim is now a fully qualified paramedic with a degree in paramedic science and a post grad diploma, and is currently working on his masters degree.
He said: “My time volunteering with Avalon Camps greatly influenced my career path, and now I am in a position to really make a difference on the streets of Bristol as both a full time paramedic and by helping to guide the work of the charity.
“Having completed two ultra marathons I am planning a little run from Hartcliffe to Mark as a fundraiser for Avalon Camps”.
Avalon Camps is a local charity which gives children aged eight and nine years old an opportunity to have a holiday in the countryside.
George Osborne, chairman of the trustees at Avalon Camps, said: “It’s fantastic that a young person who volunteered as a leader some nine years ago is now prepared to help the charity move forward into its fifth decade”
The cost of running the annual camp this year for 64 young children would be approximately £18,000. None of the camp leaders, trustees, or the nearly 200 volunteers receive a penny.
Avalon Camps planned to have a modern website to help with digital advertising and help fund camps, though they couldn’t afford to pay for a web redesign. However, Falcon Digital, who provide charities with free website designs, offered £5,000 worth of design time to Avalon Camps.
This has allowed them to have a new website where they can share their history and thank their sponsors.
