Bath & North East Somerset Council has confirmed that more than 95 per cent of families with three and four-year-olds applying for primary school places have received one of their preferred choices for the fourth consecutive year.

Of the 1,686 applications submitted for the 2025/26 academic year, 1,611 pupils – more than 95 per cent – were offered their first preference.

A further 52 received their second choice, and eight were offered their third. A total of 15 children who could not be placed in any of their preferences were allocated a place at the nearest school with availability.

Councillor Paul May, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “It’s excellent news that more than 95 per cent of families have once again been offered their first preference.”
