Later this month, local women have an opportunity to become more actively involved in local cricket, when Midsomer Norton Cricket Club launches the Active-8 cricket programme at Withies Lane under the direction of former England international, Jan Godman.
Active-8 Cricket is a fun and social eight week programme of cricket activity for women that culminates in two 8-a-side soft ball festivals. No cricket experience is required – if you are interested, just turn up and have a go!
All equipment is provided, so there is no excuse not to get involved. International cricketer and ECB coach, Jan Godman, will be in charge of these sessions.
The first Active-8 session takes place on Thursday, 18th May at the club’s
Withies Lane HQ and starts at 6.30 p.m. There will be eight sessions in all – always on a Thursday evening.
The club hosts Somerset Women county matches and England international, Fran Wilson, has previously run coaching sessions at the club. Women’s cricket is gaining momentum and the county is on a mission to support more clubs to
develop a new women’s section.
The Active-8 sessions are supported by the Somerset Cricket Board and the
Western Storm team that plays in the Kia Super League.
Director of Cricket, Nick Potter, says: “As a club, we are very keen to develop women’s cricket and we are very pleased to be involved in this initiative that has the backing of the Somerset Cricket Board and Western Storm.”
