Twelve-year-old Caitlin Williams, a member of Radstock 1st Scout group, is set to go on the trip of a lifetime in 2019.
The World Jamboree is not just a two-week camp, but an eighteen month journey of personal development, providing participants with skills for life.
Caitlin will need to raise £3,500 to pay her way, and has begun so far by making and selling bird nest boxes, babysitting, baking for and organising cake sales and is also planning a sponsored bike ride.
This Sunday, 25th March, Caitlin will be hosting an Easter Fair with chocolate trails, games, a tombola, raffle and a wood crafts stall. Caitlin will again be baking a delicious array of cakes (including vegan and gluten free) with refreshments on the day, and thanks to local businesses who have contributed raffle prizes, such as Thomsons Hardware, Craftyzan Folded books and Mendip Snow Sports Centre.
The Easter Fair takes place from 2 p.m. – 4.30 p.m. at the Radstock Scout Hall on Wells Road, Radstock, with parking available.
Caitlin says: “The Scout movement has been brilliant for me; building up both my self-confidence and belief. I have always been a little shy and quiet, but since joining the Scouts in 2016, I have made so many new friends and learnt so many new skills.
“I wanted to go to the Jamboree, to meet other Scouts from around the world. I know other countries haven’t allowed girls to join yet, for instance, Scouts in the USA only permitted girls last year, so I wanted to show them girls are as capable as boys.”
