Fewer entries at the Chilcompton Society Flower Show this year was disappointing, with no entries at all from Stratton village and the children’s section suffering too.

However, despite the hot summer and lack of rain, the vegetable and flower sections produced excellent specimens and were much admired.

Overall, visitors enjoyed a pleasant afternoon meeting friends over a cup of tea and viewing the exhibits.

Winners were: Vegetables: Josie Boxall, Flowers: Marianne Duggan, Cookery: Pat Steer (who was also overall show winner) Hobbies: Debbie Slater (who won the Arthur Hambly Award as well) Gardening Club cup: Bob Young, Newcomers’ cup: Alison Jukes, Family cup: Josie and Bert Boxall.

The committee appreciates the support of villagers who participated and thanks everyone who came along or helped in any way.
