Radstock Co-operative’s annual fundraising and awards evening raised over £800 following a raffle organized by staff. Prizes were donated by many of the Co-op’s local suppliers, service providers and business partners and ranged from hi-tech goods to weekend retreats.

Following the event, staff were invited to put forward suggestions as to which community groups or local causes should be the recipients of the money raised. The Peasedown St John team were successful with their nomination to support the Hillcrest Community Bingo Club.

The group meet regularly for social events and activities, including days out. For many of the members, it is their only opportunity to have some social contact and enjoy the company of others. The Group is run by volunteers, who as well as organising social events, carry out a range of activities for those members requiring assistance, such as gardening, providing lifts, shopping, etc.

A spokesperson for the Society said: “As a member-owned Co-operative, we believe in involving our colleagues and members with community matters. We felt that the nomination received from the Peasedown St John store to give a donation to the Hillcrest Community Bingo Club was a great choice. Many of the members and the volunteers are regular customers of the store and have developed strong relationships with our colleagues. It seemed fitting that the club should receive some financial support to help with the great work they do for local residents.”
