Frome Town Council is hosting a free community celebration event in Victoria Park to mark its golden anniversary and 50 years of serving the community.

Many local charities and organisations are running family-friendly activities on Saturday, August 10, from 12pm to 4pm, and sharing information on the day, including Frome Rotary, Frome Carnival, We Hear You, YMCA, Keyford Hedgehog Rescue, Frome FM, Frome Sport and Fitness (also celebrating their 50th anniversary), and the Frome Shed, among others.

Frome Town Council will be offering a range of free activities in a dedicated children’s arena, to include a ‘Sing-a-long’ music session, a magic show with The Magical Storybox, gold-themed crafts from Proseprints, storytelling and garden games.

There will be live music on the bandstand throughout the day, featuring Frome Town Band at midday, Paul Kirtley of the Fair Frome Tribe at 12:30pm, soloist Millie Steel and Butane Skies from Frome College from 1:15 pm to 2:45 pm, and a chance to dance with the South West Ceilidh Band from 3pm.

Among the food and refreshments on offer are a barbecue by Frome Community Café, wood-fired pizza, ice cream and a pop-up bar by the team from the Cheese and Grain. The community café is open for hot and cold drinks and snacks throughout the day.

Frome Mayor Andy Jones said: “Frome Town Council, like all councils, exists to serve the community, so it’s fitting that we mark our golden anniversary in the company of some of the fantastic organisations that make Frome what it is. If you’re celebrating a golden anniversary of your own, whether it’s a wedding, a birthday, a work anniversary, or if your school or business is 50 in 2024, we’d love to hear from you, to arrange a golden anniversary photograph on the day.

“The other vital ingredient is you – please come down and browse the stalls, pick up some lunch or enjoy an ice-cream, get your face painted, try your skills on the skittle alley or the coconut shy..and ‘do-si-do’ at the ceilidh to round off the day.”

The community celebration takes place on Saturday, August 10, from 12pm to 4pm, in Victoria Park, Frome. Entry is free. Any event proceeds raised by Frome Town Council will be donated to Fair Frome.
