Rushing between appointments can take its toll and not just on busy mayors, but their outfits too.
The Mayor of Midsomer Norton, Cllr Gordon Mackay, having just visited the Bloomfield Care Home in Paulton, where he was drawing an Easter raffle, was on his way to the Somer Centre to hand out some best-bonnet prizes at the Lions Easter Eggstravaganza when disaster struck. One of the delicate links which hold together the Chains of Office worked its way loose and was left dangling precariously.
As luck would have it, the mayor was walking along Midsomer Norton’s High Street at the time just outside the independent hardware shop, High Street DIY, owned by Chris Day. He offered to reattach the link and adjust the fastening keeping it secure so it could be worn safely over the civic robes. This meant the mayor could still arrive at the Easter Bonnet competition in time to watch the parade before presenting prize chocolate eggs.
“Chris really did save the day,” commented a grateful mayor. “We have an amazing High Street in Midsomer Norton with dozens of fantastic shops and friendly, helpful owners. Our High Street is part of our wonderful community.”
