BATH & North East Somerset Council leader Councillor Kevin Guy and Council Chair Councillor Karen Walker recently met with four Armed Forces veterans during a special visit.

Both councillors wanted to meet the veterans in Bath after they were unable to attend the Armed Forces Day flag-raising ceremony.

They met Patricia Hill, 97, a British Army Auxiliary Training Service veteran; Bernard Williams, 92, who served in Malaya; Bill Hassey, 95, an RAF veteran; and Joan Rippingale, 91, a Women’s Royal Naval Service veteran.

Councillor Kevin Guy, council leader said, “It was an enormous pleasure to meet Pat, Bernard, Bill and Joan. As Member Advocate for Armed Forces and Veterans I was privileged to chat to them and listen to their memories and the valuable roles they each played in the Armed Forces.”

Councillor Karen Walker added: ”Unfortunately none of the residents were able to attend the Armed Forces Flag Raising ceremony in June which together with Armed Forces Day recognises all those who serve and have served our country. Thank you to Walcot Court, which is run by the Methodist Homes Housing Association, for accommodating our visit.”
