THE countdown to Wells' much-anticipated festive market has begun with the event set to bring more than 100 stalls to the city centre.

Stalls will fill the medieval Market Place and Bishop’s Palace Green offering a variety of unique, handmade goods, as well as festive food and drink, on Saturday, December 14,

The market will be officially opened by Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, lead member for communities, housing and culture, and Wells Town Crier, Len Sweales, who will gather beneath the Bishop's Eye at 11am.

Visitors are reminded that there are limited parking spaces available in the city. Wells is serviced by many bus routes and the £2 fare cap for any single journey is in place until December 31, making public transport a cheap and stress-free way to get to the city.

Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts said: "I'm excited to open the Christmas market and welcome everyone to our beautiful city.

“This season is special for spending time with loved ones, and the market is a magical event where we hope thefestive spirit creates lasting memories. See you there."

The market is organised by the Somerset Council’s Mendip Markets team, which is dedicated to delivering a successful event and invites residents and visitors to join the festivities.

The event will run from 9am until 3pm in Market Place and at the Bishop’s Palace Green.
