Midsomer Norton Community Trust has just launched its Christmas Art Trail, and is encouraging all residents to take part. Invitations have been sent out to all local schools, who are always very supportive and created such amazing art works for the past Art Trails, as well as to other community groups.
People are being asked to create paper “stained glass” pictures, using black paper and tissue paper. These will be displayed in the windows of shops and businesses along the length of the high street, and surrounding area. The trail will launch on Thursday, 30th November and finish on Tuesday, 19th December.
Chief organiser Martyn Plant, Community Trust trustee and Town Councillor, said, “We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful community spirit in this town. We have shop keepers and businesses keen to display artworks and get involved in town events, and schools and groups who always make such wonderfully creative things to display”.
The Art Trail is part of the Midsomer Norton Christmas Event taking place on Thursday 30th November, between 5pm-8pm. This will take place along the high street, with attractions at various points, and the main events in the Hollies Garden. There will be lots of live music, entertainment, market stalls, food and drink, activities for all, and, of course, Santa. The Christmas tree lights will be switched on at 7pm, followed by community singing, led by members of the local Merriman Theatre Group.
The deadline to submit art works is Friday, 24th November, which can be handed in to Unit 14, South Road, or collected if necessary. There will be a free workshop on Saturday, 18th November at Unit 14, where you will be able to make your own “stained glass window” or create some other Christmas artwork.
