Last week’s Mystery Photograph brought back good memories for some of our readers, featuring a signed photograph of local band, The Rattlers. We originally thought it was taken at Coleford Legion, but members of the band have been in touch and think it could have been taken at their practice room in Shepton Mallet.

Rattlers member, Haydn Jones is pictured front left and says: “I think the photo was taken in the group’s practice room above Facey’s Cafe in Shepton Mallet.

“From left to right the members are: back row Lennie O’Connor, Terry Facey, Mike Oatley, Terry O’Connor. Front: Haydn Jones, Mike Bartlett. The photograph was taken in 1957.”

Haydn has also very kindly send us in a photograph of the group’s first performance at C&J Clarks children’s Christmas party in 1956 (see below).

Fellow band member, Mike Bartlett, says: “The photograph was taken by Bernard Mears – we used to play all over the place – we were quite good!”

Thank you to those of you who sent in your answers and memories, and to Alan and Norma Norris – Norma says she spent many happy evenings dancing at Coleford Legion!

This week’s Mystery Photograph is courtesy of Radstock Museum which has now reopened after the winter break and will be holding a special half term activity (see Page 6).
