Dorothy House Hospice’s mission is “Ensure everyone has access to outstanding palliative and end of life care”, and with greater financial demands for individuals and organisations, the role of the volunteer has never been more necessary, says Midsomer Norton Shop Assistant, Ainslie Davies.

Volunteers’ Week, which began on Monday, June 3, and runs until Sunday, June 9, recognises those who contribute to their communities across the UK.

Referring to Dorothy House Hospice, Ainslie said: “There are over 700 volunteers and roles, from nurses and health care assistants working in the hospice and the community, gardeners, companions, drivers, therapists and retail sector workers helping to stock the shops.

“Dorothy House are pleased to hear so many positive comments about their shops which generate much-needed income to help the hospice continue its work. With an ageing population and more complex health needs arising, more people are turning to Dorothy House Hospice for help.”

Ainslie and the team at the Midsomer Norton shop also thanked the brilliant locals who donate their unwanted goods, along with their customers, who “are keeping income afloat to enable the Hospice to increase its reach.”
