DOROTHY House Hospice Care is running a Christmas ‘tree-cycling’ campaign for the ninth consecutive year, covering Radstock, Midsomer Norton and the wider North East Somerset area.
Working in partnership with national charity Just Helping, they will be collecting trees in local neighbourhoods from Friday, January 10, to Sunday, January 12, and will arrive right on residents’ doorsteps.
Dorothy House volunteers collect the trees to ensure there is no need to worry about queues at recycling centres or pine needles being scattered around the car.
Residents are asked to ensure their tree is left in a clearly visible, accessible and unobstructed location outside of their property by 8am on January 10.
The eligible postcodes for collection are:
- BA1 and BA2 - Bath
- BA3 – Midsomer Norton/ Radstock
- BA4 – Shepton Mallet
- BA11- Frome
- BA12 – Warminster
- BA13 - Westbury
- BA14- Trowbridge
- BA15 – Bradford on Avon
- SN11 - Calne
- SN12 – Melksham
- SN13 – Corsham
- SN14 and SN15 – Chippenham
- SN16 - Malmesbury
- BS31 – Keynsham
- BS39 – Paulton
- BS40 – Chew Valley
The trees are then responsibly recycled in an attempt to reduce carbon emissions.
Dorothy House partners with wood chipping companies who donate equipment, with the chippings created being used all over different agricultural spaces across the community, such as with the charity’s interactive nature trail.
Some trees are used for other purposes, such as layering or sheltering for farm animals.
All donations will go to supporting Dorothy House in providing care for their patients and their families. Since starting this scheme in 2017, more than £370,000 has been raised for the hospice.
The hospice must raise £4 for every £1 it receives from the NHS to fund its care for local people living with a life-limiting illness, their families and carers.
The tree recycling scheme is supported by a number of businesses, such as Western Skip Hire, Wessex Water and Penny’s Group.
George Worle, from Pennys Group Ltd., said: “Pennys Group were delighted to be able to assist Dorothy House with their collection operations.
“We recognise the importance of Dorothy House to so many local individuals and families and that the services they provide would not be possible without fundraising events like this.
“This is our first year working with Dorothy House and I am sure it is just the start of more fundraising support to come.”
