Free Rangers nursery and school campus exist to bring humanity back to education. Twenty minutes outside of Bath, on the outskirts of Midsomer Norton, Welton Free Rangers sits on a twenty-seven acre, once working farm site.
Charlotte Lucas, Co-founder and Owner of Free Rangers, told The Journal: “We first opened our farm gates twelve years ago for nursery aged children and have since nurtured over 1,200 local children in our unique educational setting.
“Our learning environment prioritises nature connection and the holistic and individual development of each child. Over this time, we have focussed on rewilding and increasing biodiversity and creating an incredible natural environment in which to learn.
“We are now thrilled to be at a place to extend our offering to school aged children as we start to create a groundbreaking Independent Day School for primary and secondary aged children.
“Having recently achieved planning permission for our first sustainably built outdoor learning base and indoor Great Hall, we are inviting expressions of interest from families, who like us believe in an alternative to mainstream education, where learning doesn’t need to take place behind a desk and where positive relationships are the bedrock for wellbeing, personal development, and academic achievement.
“Our school will draw on inspiring and forward-thinking people, places and organisations around us. Our governors and teachers will be pioneering in their field, pulling together project-based learning experiences that span multiple topics, making learning real and experiential.
“All learning is embedded within our natural environment.
“We see equipping children and young adults with a strong sense of nature connection as fundamental, not only for their health and well being but also as a positive way to address the global climate crisis, which will ensure we are all on the journey of thinking, living and working more sustainably.”
Welton Free Rangers nursery and school are aiming for thier first intake to be in the next academic year 2023 – 2024.
