On Thursday, 29th June a group of children visited Combe Lea Residential Care Home to perform their piano recitals.

They played pieces that they have been learning with their piano teacher, Jenny Steward, who comes into school to teach them. Seven Key Stage 2 pupils each performed a minimum of two pieces for the residents, who thought how talented they were.

This was the first time that most of them had performed before an audience beyond school assemblies and it was a great success. There is talk of another performance at the end of the year.

Headteacher Karen Bazeley said: “Our community link with Combe Lea is very special.

“The Year 5 children, who go fortnightly to do activities with the residents, love going and get a lot out of the inter-generational interaction. It was great that the children performed.

“We are very proud of our commitment to music at Longvernal. In November 2022 we were awarded the Music Mark award in recognition of this. This academic year we have performed in singing events at Wells Cathedral in the Voices for Life Stardust Project plus Raise the Roof and Hear My Voice.”
