Bob Boulton, the new speaker Secretary for Midsomer Norton Probus, has got off to a flying start in his first two months of the year.

To start the year was the usual AGM followed by a great quiz put on by Rob Thain, the competition was very keen amongst the tables of members.

Also in January was a very good talk by Dr Andrew Swift on Brunel.

Most of the members were amazed at the things they didn’t know about Brunel.

During his career he achieved many engineering firsts, the well documented SS Great Britain the first propeller driven, ocean going iron ship, when launched in 1843 was the largest ship ever built.

Brunel was involved with many things nearer home in Bath, the station, Box Tunnel and routing the line to go through Twerton to pick up the clothes factories.

A great talk with many questions after from the members.

The first meeting in February was a real test for the members, Ian Mathison and Don Rouse brought to the tables 25 objects that had to be identified, what confusion that caused with about 50% worked out, an amusing morning enjoyed by all.

At the final morning in February Bob Boulton had to step in when the speaker engaged was ill.

It was all about Bob’s life in the print business, he worked at Standard Check Book company at Welton Midsomer Norton.

Jen, his wife, came along to hand out samples of paper with different thickness and colour.

The members had been entertained before by Bob as he was a member of the magic circle and had many tricks to show.
