MEMBERS of Norton Down Methodist Church are hosting their second fundraising event for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The event will take place at Norton Down Methodist Church on September 25, from 10.30am until 12pm.
Last year’s fundraising event raised more than £1,000 and members are hopeful to reach or surpass this amount in their upcoming event.
The event will feature coffee and cakes, with the goal of providing a successful event in support of the charity.
Christine Button is the organist at the Church. Her husband, Colin, who volunteered at Midsomer Norton Heritage Railway, was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. The cancer spread from his prostate to his spine and shoulder, resulting in paralysis.
After his treatment, Colin was transferred to Clare Hall Nursing Home, Ston Easton, near Radstock. During this period, Christine received support from Karen at Macmillan Cancer Support, who provided care to both Christine and Colin.
Last October, Colin was rushed to the hospital after a serious health event. Christine received a late-night call informing her that Colin might not survive and that he remained unconscious for several hours.
Colin is now is receiving care from the care home staff and doctor, who have been supportive throughout his stay.
Macmillan Cancer Support provides services for people living with cancer at every stage of their experience. It offers emotional, practical, physical, and financial support.
