A NEW interactive light show is set to transform Wells Cathedral this winter giving visitors the chance to experience light projections and soundscapes in an immersive setting.
The light show, ‘Space’ by Luxmuralis, will take place at Wells Cathedral from Tuesday, January 28, to Saturday, February 1. This immersive event will transform the Cathedral with vibrant light projections and accompanying sound, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore humanity’s place in the universe.
The show will run each evening from 6pm to 9pm with entry available every 15 minutes, allowing guests to experience the striking visuals and thought-provoking atmosphere at their own pace.
‘Space’ will be a spectacular immersive journey for visitors to walk through and explore the space of Wells Cathedral in a new light. The artwork asks visitors to look out into space and think about what humans have achieved in our place in the world.
‘Luxmuralis’ is the name given to the artistic collaboration between Peter Walker Sculptor and David Harper Composer, who specialise in immersive fine art, light and sound installations around the UK and abroad.
Asmita Sarkar, journalist at Birmingham World, said: “For someone, who has never stepped inside the Cathedral before this was indeed a divine experience. The kaleidoscopic lightworks by the light sculptor and the accompanying music will transport you into another realm. Whether you are religious or not, this is an experience that can only leave you exalted.
“The crescendo of the music complements the light projection perfectly and together they create an experience like no other.”
The son-et-lumière artwork encourages reflection on humanity’s place in the universe as vibrant light is projected around the Cathedral, transforming its interior and turning the walls and ceilings into a stunning cosmic display.
Alexia James, commercial operations director at Wells Cathedral, said: “This incredible, immersive show has toured for a couple years to rave reviews, so we are thrilled it is now coming to Wells in its new, updated format.”
A selection of refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the event.
Tickets for the event are priced at £12 for adults (18+), £6 for children (4–17), and entry is free for children aged 0–3 years.
