The Chew Valley 10K is set to make its return for 2024 - but time is running out for those who want especially designed T-shirts.
With just six weeks to go until the 12th annual running event, the final touches are being made by organisers who say it helps “embrace the community.”
This year's T-shirt and medal were designed by Leo Greatbanks, a Year-7 student at Chew Valley School. The designs came following a competition which was held by the school’s Jo Ashman, head of design and technology.
Several students have taken part in the competition this year but organisers and the school are congratulating Leo, who is pictured alongside the main race sponsors, Mark Houlford of Brock & Houlford, Justin Taylor, of Winford Ford Car Sales and Service Department, and Gareth Beynon, headteacher at Chew Valley School. Leo’s eye catching design was a real hit with the race committee, who loved the colours and vibrancy. Denise Mellersh, Chew Valley 10K race director, said: “The Chew 10k is more than a race. It’s a vehicle for embracing the community and celebrating the skills we can all bring together to a common goal.”
The event, which will be held on Sunday, June 9, from 9.30am for which entries are now open, boasts a “beautiful rural route and fabulous, infamous hill.
The race headquarters are based at Bishop Sutton Village Hall and the village field behind allows for plenty of space to warm up and catch-up with fellow runners. Refreshments and cakes will also be available, provided by the team at Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest School.
The Chew Valley 10K website states the event is a chip timed, UK Athletics-licensed event – race numbers with chips will be mailed to entrants if they enter before 10pm on May 12, 2024.
