Tunley Athletic FC, recently recognised by Specsavers' as the country’s ‘best worst’ team, is aiming to improve their performance on the pitch after undergoing eye tests from opticians in Bath.
After being named as the ‘worst’ football team in the country, Tunley Athletic, who finished bottom of the table last season with a goal difference of -137, has been given a once in a lifetime opportunity by Specsavers to help turn their fortunes around.
This includes face-to-face training from none other than legendary football manager, Harry Redknapp, and a visit from teenage darts sensation and PDC World Champion, Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler, who gave the players advice about how to perform under pressure.
Alongside benefitting from advice from these sporting stars, the visit to Specsavers in Bath was the perfect opportunity for some of the team to have their eyes tested and choose some new glasses.
The club, which is more than 100 years old and plays a pivotal role in the local community, has seen players from multiple generations wearing the shirt, while manager, Duncan Fear, has been with Tunley for 10 years and gets stuck in both on and off the pitch to help out where needed.
Tyler Davis, captain of Tunley FC, and goalkeeper Ryan Edmunds, were joined by assistant coach Rob Johnson, club secretary Yvonne Dix, and chairman Craig Doughty, to meet members of the Bath Specsavers team. As well as both Tyler and Ryan having an eye test, they chatted to the Specsavers team about how the season is going so far and presented them with a Tunley shirt.
Phil Lodge, director of the Specsavers Bath branch, said: “We were thrilled to welcome some of the Tunley team into the store.
“We heard all about this once in a lifetime opportunity of working with Harry Redknapp and it was clear to see how much the team is relishing the chance to learn and improve while having fun along the way as well. Of course, we had to get them in for a sight test too. Hopefully it will help them keep their eyes firmly on the ball for the rest of the season.
“Results this season, while still not being quite where we’d like them, are moving in the right direction and we’re confident we’ll continue to see an improvement for the rest of the season. We very much hope to see some of the Specsavers Bath team at our next home game.”
