A ROAD was closed while fire crews tackled a blazing car in a field near Frome.

Crews from Frome and Shepton Mallet rushed to the scene in the Holwell Hill area at around 2.40pm on Monday, August 19.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service stated on its incident log: “Upon their attendance, crews could not find any signs of fire at the location, but did see smoke in the distance to which they proceeded to investigate.

“They then discovered a vehicle in a field which was well alight. Fire crews from Frome requested another fire engine to attend and a fire engine from Shepton Mallet was mobilised.

“The highway was closed, but it has now re-opened. Fire crews have used one hose reel jet and one thermal imaging camera so far to extinguish the fire.

“This incident has now come to a close, with no further equipment being used.”
