Following on from the article back in January announcing the retirement of the Somer Valley Foodbank Chair, Joy Fraser, the search for a suitable candidate began for a replacement on the management committee.

Somer Valley were very fortunate to find not only someone local, all be it new to the area, but a previous Foodbank Chair from the Forest of Dean. Paul Woodward took up his role in April, as handed down to him by Joy.

Fortunately, Paul and his wife, Margaret, moved to the area to be closer to their

family, and with his experience and knowledge on the Trussell Trust charity and ambition and enthusiasm, he was the ideal candidate.

We would like to say a huge welcome to Paul and a fond farewell to Joy for all her hard work over the past four years, and wish her every happiness for the future in her new, less hectic schedule, though knowing Joy, who is involved in many other activities, such as Peasedown St John’s popular Party in the Park, it won’t be too relaxing!

The Foodbank rely on food donations to feed those in crisis and have distribution centres in Midsomer Norton, Peasedown St John and Radstock, which are run by volunteers.
