Jacky Emm has stepped into the role of Midsomer Norton and Radstock’s Inner Wheel President for the second time to steer the club through its sixtieth anniversary year, which will be celebrated in style at The Swan Hotel in Wells on October 28th.
She has decided to raise funds for small local charities and anticipates much fun and friendship along the way.
Outgoing President, Heather Langridge, handed over the chain of office at the club’s AGM in Kilmersdon’s Jolliffe Arms when she looked back on a year of camaraderie and helping charities, especially her chosen ones, Canine Partners (via a fashion show) and Dorothy House Hospice (via an alfresco charity lunch).
Highlights of her year
included a musical parody on Wind in the Willows and talks on SS Great Britain; TV’s Weakest Link, cheese making, Christmas cake icing, novel writing and the history of Bristol blue glass. A Christmas bring and buy boosted the RUH cancer unit in memory of a much loved member; a cream tea raised funds for Filipino street children and Inner Wheel Day’s cream tea for senior citizens. Charter night and a Secret Santa Christmas dinner all kept spirits high, as did outings and the monthly coffee mornings.
Heather thanked members for their support throughout her year and on the club’s behalf, Jacky presented her with a Dartington Crystal tulip vase and flowers and a card signed with everyone’s appreciation.
