DOG owners in Frome are invited to participate in a dog parkour and hooping session hosted by the town council and Charismatic Pets at the Old Showfield.
The event will take place on Saturday, August 17, from 3pm to 5pm, and every dog that participates in the course will be awarded a rosette for their involvement.
Charismatic Pets ran a similar session in April on behalf of the town council, as part of a series of public engagement events, offering residents an opportunity to share thoughts and ideas for the Showfield as a whole.
Among the project findings was interest in creating a dedicated space for dogs to play and train. Preliminary plans and drawings for a new dog area in the back field will be on display alongside the dog parkour session on August 17, and attendees are encouraged to share their feedback and opinions.
Cllr Mark Dorrington said: “The Old Showfield is very popular with dog walkers, so as you’d expect, there were a lot of conversations about exercising dogs in the space across all the engagement events.
“Many people told FTC staff that they would like to see an area specifically designed for dogs, so it’s one of the aspects we’re taking forward. The team from Charismatic Pets ran a really fun, successful event in April and we hope lots of people will come along and help us develop the plans for the dog area.”
Frome Town Council’s Environment team have produced some drawings of the proposed equipment, following research into similar public dog areas and taking advice from reputable suppliers. In order to proceed with planning and implementation of the dog area, the council welcomes the views of Frome’s community of dog owners on the plans so far.
Charismatic Pets will also have their pop-up pet shop, offering a range of natural dog treats and chews.
If the weather conditions are too hot, the event will be postponed. Attendees are advised to check the Facebook event at bit.ly/dog-parkour-august or look for notices at the Showfield for updates.
