A red warning was issued for the northern parts of the county that sat by the Bristol Channel. This led to many across Somerset receiving an emergency alert on their phones from the government, the largest use of the system outside of tests so far.
The early hours of the morning saw particularly strong and tall waves in the Bristol channel, which could be seen in Minehead and Watchet.
Though the red wind warning was only in place until 11am, the storm did not subside, as Somerset was still under an amber alert, which was in place until 9pm on December 7.
Yellow warnings remain until 6pm on Sunday December 8.
The strong winds have continued throughout the day, causing damage to various pieces of infrastructure and trees.
This has meant that disruption has been felt across the county, particularly for travellers, who have had to deal with numerous road closures all day.
A lot of these came from fallen debris, such as trees, blocking the path of drivers.
Hundreds of homes remain without power across Somerset, after cuts began from the early hours of Saturday morning.
This includes over 400 homes in Tonedale, as well hundreds across Watchet, Minehead, and between Washford and Williton.
Initial projections suggested that these cuts would be resolved by 6pm on December 7, but National Grid now say that some areas will now have their power cuts resolved by 9pm on Monday December 9.
