Local girl, Hepzibah Bevis, has been offered a place to train with renowned national youth theatre company, Youth Music Theatre. Award-winning choir, The Jenny Peplow Singers, are holding a fundraising concert in order to help Hepzibah realise her dream.

The concert will be an evening of popular music, tea and cake, with a guest appearance by Hepzibah and friends. Back in January, Hepzibah auditioned for YMT, along with over 1,000 other young people aged 11–21 from across the UK. Out of these, just 300 places were offered and Hepzibah was one of the talented few to be chosen. She will be spending two weeks during the summer working alongside a professional team of Director, Choreographer and Musical Director, as well as award-winning Composer, Rebecca Applin, developing a new piece of music theatre at the Plymouth Barbican.

In order to take part, Hepzibah needs to raise just over £1,500 to cover the cost of all the professional training, as well as accommodation and pastoral care. When successful local choir leader, Jenny Peplow, heard about this, she suggested holding a concert to help fundraise.

Jenny said: “I believe in supporting young people with talent, because I was really supported by my singing teacher and family. Hepzibah has the X-factor, and she is so committed and has the correct attitude towards the arts.”

Hepzibah said: “I met some brilliant people at the audition, and I’m looking forward to working with a professional team in the summer. I am a bit nervous about the long rehearsal days, but it’ll be great to be able to just knuckle down and focus on the show. I’m really excited about performing at Plymouth Barbican.”

The concert will take place this Saturday, 16th June at Chilcompton Village Hall from 7.30 p.m.
