Dan Norris has kicked off his campaign to become the Labour Member of Parliament for North East Somerset and Hanham taking on Conservative Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Dan Norris was selected as the candidate to represent the constituency on Friday, 10th May following a vote from 296 Labour members. The results were as follows:

Following third-placed Rebecca’s elimination, votes were reallocated, putting Dan over the 50% vote threshold. 

At a packed campaign launch in the brilliant sunshine at Keynsham Memorial Park, Mr Norris said: “This election is about getting Britain’s future back. Nothing seems to work anymore, with lies and incompetence from a Government that’s lost its way and is putting party before country.

“With a General Election looming more people are telling me they think it’s time to turn the page. This seat has swung between Labour and the Conservatives for 30 years. It’s the kind of seat where every vote really counts. 

Local people are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, can’t get a dental appointment and want action to tackle the climate emergency.” 

Dan Norris was the Labour Member of Parliament for the predecessor seat of Wansdyke (1997-2010). He was elected Mayor of the West of England in 2021.

Deeply rooted in the local community, Dan Norris has lived, worked and studied locally for decades. Prior to entering politics, he was a child protection social worker having been trained by the NSPCC. A long-standing animal welfare advocate, Mr. Norris is currently the chair of the League Against Cruel Sports.
