A STRETCH of the M5 in Somerset is closed following a major fuel spill this morning (Thursday, February 6).
National Highways has confirmed diversions are in place following the incident on the northbound carriageway near Bridgwater.
Travel Somerset said this morning how all traffic was being temporarily held due to a fuel spillage on M5 Northbound at junction 24 for the A38 Taunton Road (Bridgwater South).
National Highways has stated the road is now closed and there are delays of around an hour.
“The M5 in Somerset is closed northbound between J24 and J23 near Bridgwater due to a large diesel spillage,” National Highways has said.
“The spillage from a heavy goods vehicle fuel tank, has spread for approximately half a mile down the carriageway.”
