Thirty six different sides (teams) - around four hundred dancers - attended and performed in twelve spots around the centre of the city.
The event was to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Joint Morris Organisation, which was set up to protest against plans to include morris dancing in the 2003 Licensing Act, which would have meant that dancers would have had to apply for a Temporary Event Notice to be allowed to dance anywhere, even outside a pub.
Luckily, after a lot of protest, common sense prevailed and morris dancers can still freely do what they have been doing for hundreds of years – dance!
Both Mendip and Somerset Morris welcome new members and musicians. Check out their Facebook pages for more information.
