Local man Geoffrey Weeks recently celebrated his 100th birthday and received a card from King Charles and Queen Camilla to mark the occasion.
Geoffrey was born in Peasedown on June 15, 1924, and he has lived in the area his entire life life. To mark the milestone occasion, Mr Weeks hosted a party at Fosseway Golf Club, featuring music, a buffet, and the company of his family and numerous friends.
Geoff began his working life at the age of 14, joining Radstock Co-op delivering milk on one of their carts, which was horse-drawn at the time.
In 1941, aged 17, he was called up to serve in the Second World War and opted to join the Navy, serving as a gunner on landing craft and minesweepers.
When the war ended, he returned home and reinstated his post as a milkman at the Radstock Co-op, a company he remained for the rest of his working life, progressing through posts and eventually becoming the overall manager of the dairy department before retiring at 65. He also served on the board of directors at the Co-op for many years.
Geoff was married to Olive Weeks from August 28, 1948. They had four children - Andrew, Timothy, Judith and Karen. They celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in August 2008, shortly before Olive sadly passed away in October. Geoff has been living independently ever since.
A keen sportsman, Geoff enjoyed playing football in his younger days, playing for local team Radstock Town FC on a few occasions, as well as being a spirited player on the Co-op football team.
Upon retiring, Geoff swapped football for golf. He joined Fosseway Golf Club, where he played in many competitions, winning a multitude of accolades. Geoff won his last trophy at the Fosseway Golf Club Seniors Open at the age of 94. He has since put down his golf irons, but still enjoys visiting Fosseway Golf club twice a week to meet friends, driving himself to his social appointments.
To mark Geoff’s amazing milestone, RadCo CEO Don Morris and the Society's Board of Directors, president Graham Jeffery, paid a visit to his home to present him with a variety of gifts from Radstock Co-operative Society.
When asked about his secret to reaching 100 years of age, Geoff humorously mentioned enjoying a dram of whiskey with a hint of peppermint and a pipe before bedtime.
All at Radstock Co-operative Society, along with his friends and family, wish Geoff a happy birthday.
