A MAN has died on the A361 just days after a young woman was tragically killed in a collision on the same road just a few miles away.
Police have issued an urgent appeal after a man, driving a Vauxhall Astra, died at the scene of a crash with a BMW in East Cranmore on Wednesday night (April 17).
The crash comes after emotional tributes were paid to Natasha Poore, 25, who lost her life after the Volkswagen Golf she was driving hit a Mercedes C220 AMG on the A361 in Frome on Monday, April 8.
The crash happened at the junction with the A362 at approximately 11pm. The 25-year-old, from Evercreech, sadly died at the scene.
In a tribute, her family said: “It is with great sadness that our beautiful and caring daughter Natasha, who was a loving sister, granddaughter and friend, was tragically taken from us on Monday, April 8.
“Her life was cut so short with so many adventures ahead of her. We will all miss and love her forever.”
Avon and Somerset Police are investigating both crashes and the latest involved a white BMW 1 Series which was travelling towards Shepton Mallet, while the green Vauxhall Astra was travelling towards Frome.
Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: “Our enquiries are at an early stage but we have also spoken to the driver of a black Ford Fiesta, that was seen driving in the same direction as the BMW, as we seek to establish whether their vehicle was also involved in the collision.
“A man who was driving the Astra sadly died at the scene. His next of kin has been informed. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time and they will be supported by a specially-trained officer.”
The male BMW driver was taken to hospital for treatment and the A361 was closed in both directions between Tansey and Nunney Catch and reopened at about 10.20am on Thursday (April 18). Collision investigation work has been carried out at the scene, including reviewing CCTV footage.
The police statement added: ”We believe there were a number of cars and a green John Deere tractor, which was towing a red silage trailer, travelling in the area at the time. We would ask the occupants of those vehicles to please contact us to let us know if they witnessed anything that could help our enquiries.
“We’d ask them, plus anyone else who witnessed the collision or has relevant dashcam, to please contact us online or on 101 quoting reference number 5224098411.”
- A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drink driving, and drug driving in connection with the crash involving Ms Poore and is now on conditional police bail, pending further enquiries. Anybody who may have any dashcam, CCTV or other footage in relation to the collision, or any information about the circumstances leading to it, are urged to call 101 with reference 5224089811.
