A Somerset man will make the 1,318 mile journey across seven European countries to deliver a 4x4 vehicle packed with medical supplies to Lviv, in western Ukraine.

Through his love of travel and spending a lot of time in Africa with his father, Guy Crofton has helped many with his charity work. Guy, from Langford, Somerset, who will be joined by co-driver Harry, believes he is fortunate to have been born in the UK.

Guy’s motivation for making the epic trip was to draw attention to the impact of the ongoing war in Ukraine. He wants to remind people “that Ukraine remains trapped in a conflict that they have not instigated but instead have been forced to fight to defend their own lives and liberties.”

On reaching Lviv the 4x4 pick-up will be delivered to a dedicated workshop run by Ukrainian volunteers, where vehicles are prepared for the combat zone. Members of the Ukrainian armed forces then take the vehicle further into the country, where it will be used to evacuate those wounded during the ongoing conflict.

Every nine minutes an evacuation attempt of a wounded person in Ukraine is made. This is only possible with the help of donations and volunteers.

As of October 16, civilian casualties reached more than 30,000, 3.7 million people are internally displaced and 6.5 million have fled Ukraine.

Through Driving Ukraine, Guy says he hopes “to provide direct help to those in Ukraine as well to remind people of the ongoing conflict and inspire them to help in their own way.”

Guy also recently ran 12 half-marathons in 12 days to raise £5,500 for the suicide prevention charity PAPYRUS. Together with his love of travel and passion for music, Guy plans to hold fund raising events for this trip while skiing in Niseko, Japan.

Guy and Harry’s partner for the trip is Hugo Dalley. The pair have never met but share a fundraising page.
