Midsomer Norton celebrates those who made outstanding achievements once again as nominations open for the town’s annual Civic Awards.

The event will take place during the annual meeting of the town council at the Somer Centre on Tuesday, April 29.

The scheme originally started in 2007 by the Midsomer Norton Society and, since then, the awards have developed into an important part of the civic calendar.

The town council took on the awards when it formed in 2011 as a way of recognising the contribution of local residents.

Lifetime awards for those who contribute over a longer period, individual awards, and awards to recognise the good work of groups are all offered.

Those who are recognised through an award are appreciated both for their service, and for their willingness to come forward and accept the symbolic thanks of the town.

Members of the community are invited to nominate individuals and groups in the following categories:

  • Young Person of the Year
  • Person of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Community Youth Group of the Year
  • Community Group of the Year
  • Community Volunteers of the Year
  • Mayor’s Award
  • Environmental Award
  • Sports Achievement of the Year

Town mayor Cllr Martyn Plant said: "There are many individuals and groups in the town that contribute to the community with little or no reward.

“While I am privileged in my role as town mayor to observe many of them directly, these awards would allow us to publicly recognise those individuals and groups."

Nominations must be submitted by midday on Friday, March 28. Submissions will be reviewed by the town council in early April, with the winners being invited to the award ceremony on April 29.

Anybody who knows an individual or a group deserving of recognition are asked to email [email protected] with the name of your nominee and reasons for your nomination.
