The ‘Cook & Eat’ group, an initiative supported by Age UK Bath & North East Somerset, is offering a unique opportunity for older residents of the Midsomer Norton area to come together and hone their cooking skills while enjoying a social atmosphere.
Held at Orchard Vale Community Hall, this group meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month, from 11.30am to 2pm.
A small fee per session covers all ingredients to cook two-course meals, such as sausage and vegetable casserole and jam and coconut sponge with custard. People are guided on how to cook healthy, nutritious meals, leaving with confidence to cook them again at home.
The ‘Cook & Eat’ sessions serve as a community hub where older people can engage in meaningful interactions, form friendships, and support each other in a welcoming environment.
“This is a small friendly group who care about me. It's a lifeline for me as I live alone," says one participant, reflecting the sentiments of many who find friendship and fun in their bi-monthly gatherings.
Feedback from the group highlights the positive impact on their cooking skills, confidence and wellbeing.
