This month's photograph shows some of the up-to-date machinery of the time being used, although the workforce was still larger than might be needed today. Do you know where this is or can you hazard a guess as to the date? If you have anything interesting to tell us about it and would like a mention in the Gazette, please get in touch. Last month's mystery photo showed Hazel Crest, a ‘self-built’ bungalow, which lies on the B3114 between East Harptree and Litton. It was built by a well-known local man, Austin Wookey, in the 1920s and he lived there for over 60 years. There is still a house on the site, rebuilt in the 1990s. The car is an Austin Seven, which was in production from 1923 until 1939. Almost 300,000 were produced.

Do you have any old pictures of people, places and events in the Chew Valley and Mendip area that you would like to see in the Gazette as a mystery photo, or that could be added to the Harptrees History Society's archive? If so, please email [email protected]
