Older residents in Bath and North East Somerset now have a powerful new platform to shape the decisions that affect their lives.

The official launch of a dedicated forum for over-55’s at the Older People’s Voice event marks a major step forward in ensuring their voices are heard and valued in key discussions across the region.

With more than 60 attendees, the event was a gathering of older residents, community leaders, and decision-makers.

Held at Curo’s Mulberry Park Hub, the event featured insightful panel discussions, thought-provoking Q&As, and a wave of new sign-ups from people eager to make change happen.

The Older People’s Voice was launched as part of the Ageing Well Bath & North East Somerset Programme.

Ceri Calonmor, Ageing Well B&NES programme lead, said "This wasn’t just an event – it was the start of something bigger. More than 1,300 people took part in our Ageing Well survey, and made it clear just how much older residents in B&NES want their voices heard.

“The turnout and energy in the room showed that people are ready - not just to talk, but to take action and help shape a future that truly works for them.”

Renowned broadcaster Ali Vowles delivered the keynote speech, highlighting the importance of embracing later life with confidence, connection, and purpose.

He said "This is about more than services—it’s about connection, community, and making sure that growing older is something to embrace, not fear. Every older person deserves to be heard, valued, and supported, and this forum is a real step towards that. I am honoured to be a part of it.”

The Ageing Well B&NES Team will now take the forum on the road, holding events in Chew Valley, Radstock, and Keynsham.
