One resident was upset to see Steve Plumley say he was not going to stand for the Town Council again in this week's letters column.
“
I was very sorry to read that Steve Plumley will be standing down from Midsomer Norton Town Council at the May elections. From the chaos of Norton Radstock Council to the triumph of the Independent Town Council for Midsomer Norton, Steve Plumley has been a reassuring presence in the politics of our town.
Steve is a tireless community volunteer. Indeed his commitment to the Town runs so deep you’ll even find him at Welton Rovers on a Saturday afternoon!
The fact that Midsomer Norton Town Council is losing the Town Councillor of the Year is a very sad indictment on where this once celebrated institution now finds itself. Steve has earned the right to step away from public life after decades of public service, but it is to our eternal regret that we never had the chance to award this most worthy of individuals the title of first citizen.
Steve Plumley, the best Mayor Midsomer Norton never had.
