When King George VI died on 6th February 1952, Elizabeth became head of the Commonwealth and the Queen of the United Kingdom.
In 1947 Elizabeth married the former Prince of Greece and Denmark - Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Together they had four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
Her Majesty the Queen acceded to the throne aged just 25. In 2017, she became the first British monarch to reach a Sapphire Jubilee, the 65th anniversary of her reign. She is the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch and longest-serving female head of state in world history. In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service.
