A FIRE broke out inside a vehicle in Shepton Mallet forcing the owner to use a garden hose to put out the flames.

A crew from Shepton Mallet was called to the incident in Anchor, Road, Coleford, at around 2.49am on Wednesday, June 19.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Services said on its log: “Fire control received a call from the owner of a car which was on fire outside a property in the area of Anchor Road, Coleford.

“Once on scene, crews confirmed there had been a fire inside of a vehicle which has been extinguished by the occupant using a garden hose pipe. Crews monitored any hotspots with a thermal imaging camera and damped down the interior of the car with one hose reel jet.

“This was believed to be deliberate ignition and crews left the incident in the hands of police.
