Peasedown Post Office, once a facility situated at 45 Bath Road, will be making a return to its former home very soon, as the arrangement for temporary accomodation at the Hive Community Centre comes to an end.

Lorna Hills with the help of Sue Morgan, who both worked at the old Post Office, took charge at the temporary location following the last postmasters’ decision to retire is business in February 2021. They have been running it successfully for almost two years.

As well as providing vital postal services, the space has been an outlet for local artists and makers to sell their wares, and has continued the Hive’s community ethos and approach right through to the back of the centre where the service is situated for the time being.

The Post Office at the Hive will close at the end of the business day on Monday 17th April, and will reopen at its new home in the Premier Shop at 45 Bath Road on Tuesday 18th of April. There will be a smooth handover to the new postmaster and services can resume as normal for Peasedown residents whilst the move takes place.

Chair of the Hive Community Centre Committee, Joy Fraser said: “We are sad to see the Post Office move, but we are pleased that its services will remain in the village. We wish the new posmaster well with this new venture.

“Together with Lorna and Sue, the Hive have managed to fill the gap whilst a permanent home for the Post Office could be found.

“The Post Office has been brilliant, it’s put the building on the map. It really has been great. In lots of ways, we are sorry to see it go.”

The Hive was invited to apply as a permanent location, but was not eligible under the terms and conditions required by the Post Office.

Lorna said: “It has been such a great pleasure to run the Post Office for the village at the Hive for the last couple of years.”

In the Post Office’s absence, the Hive Community Centre will be hiring out the room to community groups who wish to use it for meeting space. The centre has a number of spaces available to use, as well as homing the Community Library and SWALLOW Café.

Through the week, the Hive has a number of events going on from fitness to baby groups, and also homes the community fridge.

The Hive has helped to spread the news about the Post Office relocation on their social media, as well as on Peasedown Open Forum.

The Hive Community Centre Committee wants to thank Lorna and Sue for all their hard work over the last two years and wishes them well for the future.
