PERSIMMON Severn Valley has donated £1,000 to the Bristol Normandy Veterans Group as part of its Community Champions initiative.

The Bristol Normandy Veterans, formerly Bristol Normandy Veterans Association Branch No 2, supports the welfare of veterans who landed in Normandy during Operation Overlord in June 1944 and the widows of deceased veterans.

The group raises funds to arrange days out, celebrate birthdays, and fund a Christmas party. Recently, they raised funds for a new memorial in their garden of remembrance in Castle Park, Bristol.

The donation from Persimmon Severn Valley was presented to Paul Turner, a representative of the Bristol Normandy Veterans Group, and other group members. This support will assist in their efforts to honour and support D-Day veterans in the Bristol area.

Persimmon has a strong presence in the local community, with the housebuilder nearing the completion of its development at Lyde Green on the outskirts of Bristol. The final homes available include two four-bedroom properties and six two-bedroom apartments, starting at £255,000.

Paul Turner said: "This donation is enormously helpful in ensuring that we can continue to honour the bravery and sacrifices of our veterans.

“The support from businesses like Persimmon Severn Valley is vital in helping us maintain our memorials and organise events for our veterans.

“We’re very grateful to Persimmon for this support."

Carly Spear, Sales Director for Persimmon Severn Valley, said: "We are very pleased to support the Bristol Normandy Veterans Group in their vital work, which meets very close to our near-complete Lyde Green development on the outskirts of Bristol.

“At Persimmon, we believe in giving back to the communities where we build, and this donation will help ensure that the legacy of the Normandy veterans is preserved and celebrated.

“It is crucial that we remember and honour the sacrifices made by these brave individuals."

The Bristol Normandy Veterans Group has organised commemorative events and maintained memorials dedicated to the veterans of the Normandy landings.

The group also provides support to veterans and their families, ensuring that their contributions are not forgotten. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, followed by lunch. Fundraising is an ongoing necessity, and any support is greatly appreciated.

Persimmon Severn Valley’s Community Champions initiative continues to support local causes and communities, reinforcing the company’s commitment to making a positive impact where it builds.
