A former Somerset Argos store could be turned into a restaurant if developers get their way.
Midsomer Norton’s branch of the catalogue-based shop closed in 2020, with an alternative click and collect Argos service opening at the nearby Sainsbury’s, at the Hollies.
The building at 32 High Street is owned by developers the Universal Consolidated Group Ltd, which has sent a change of use application to Bath and North East Somerset Council as part of potential plans to open it as a restaurant.
People in the town had been expecting the former store to become a gym.
A previous change of use application submitted to the council last year by the Gym Group had confirmed the building could be used for recreation and fitness. The group is still listing a gym in Midsomer Norton as “coming soon” on their website.
The Universal Consolidated Group Ltd has been contacted for a comment.
