Residents of Tyning, in Radstock, have approached the Town Council to see if the local pub can be listed as an asset of community value, which would mean that they would have the chance to bid on it if it were to go up for sale.
Both Ward Councillors agreed it should be kept as a community asset, although Cllr Chris Dando warned it was unlikely the Town Council would be able to save both the pub and the Methodist Church, which it is currently trying to acquire for the use of local residents for years to come.
He said he was happy to propose the listing, as it would be “a tragedy in my view, if it were to be turned in to flats, particularly when there is a lot of redevelopment about to take place in the vicinity.
“However, I’m not sure we would be able to lead any community bid – there’s only so many buildings we can rescue in one week.”
This could be a project for Big Local to become involved in. What would you like to see happen there?
