Three “passivhaus” homes are set to be built in the Chew Valley village of Stanton Drew.

Fremantle Developments Ltd is planning to build three five-bedroom homes on a field off the Orchard in the southern part of the village. All the homes would meet “passivhaus” standards, with low carbon heating, a high level of insulation and solar panels on the roof.

Bath and North East Somerset Council twice refused planning permission for the homes but the decision was overturned on appeal to the planning inspectorate. Now the council has to accept the principle of development on the site and the application is only seeking a green light on the technical details.

A statement submitted with the application said: “The proposed development is an innovative response to the specific context of the site. Integrating passivhaus design and renewable energy solutions, resulting in three modern houses offering attractive and comfortable accommodation for family life.”

The homes would have a combined kitchen, dining, and living room downstairs along with a snug, study, pantry, and utility room. The five bedrooms would be located upstairs along with the bathrooms.
