The Lib Dems have taken majority control of Keynsham Town Council, after winning a by-election held in the Keynsham North ward on 9th December.
Alex Beaumont becomes Keynsham Town Council’s newest Councillor, in a result which saw him gaining 48% of votes cast with
428 votes to the runner-up candidate’s 141.
The by-election was triggered due to the resignation of an Independent Town Councillor.
Councillor Andy Wait, Leader of Keynsham Town Council, commented: “This was a great result. I’m delighted to welcome Alex as the newest – and youngest ever – Keynsham Town Councillor. He will be a superb representative for all the people of Keynsham North. Alex has lived all his life in the ward and has been a member of our Youth Council, Keynsham Now, for six years, making him very knowledgeable and experienced on local issues. He will be a valuable addition to the hard-working Liberal Democrat team on Keynsham Town Council.”
Steve Gourley, Chair of B&NES Lib Dems, added: “This is a fantastic win brought about by a great, local candidate. His ability to inspire a team of supporters and put in a lot of determined, hard work bodes well for him representing the people of his community.”
Councillor Alex Beaumont said: “I’d like to thank all 428 residents of Keynsham North, who supported me in this election, and all my colleagues who helped in the campaign. I am delighted and honoured to serve the residents of Keynsham North.
“I’m looking forward to getting down to work on the issues that matter to Keynsham residents – essential public services such as buses and public toilets, tackling pollution, and supporting the town centre and a shop for Somerdale residents.”
