Local elections were held across Bath and North East Somerset yesterday.
The results have now been announced for all Bath and North East Somerset Council seats. There are 59 seats on the Council, 57 of which were up for grabs yesterday.
The two remaining seats belong to the Paulton ward, where the election has been rearranged for a later date due to the sad and unexpected passing of Green Party candidate Tim Morgan.
Of the seats that were included in yesterdays' vote, the Liberal Democrats won a landslide majority. The party now hold 41 of 59 seats in the region, marking their second term as the majority on B&NES Council since the 2019 elections.
The total number of seats won by each party are as follows:
- Liberal Democrats - 41 seats (up from 36, 7 gained).
- Independent - 5 seats (down from 6, 1 lost).
- Labour - 3 seats (down from 4, 1 lost).
- Conservatives - 3 seats (down from 11, 8 lost).
- Green Party - 3 seats (up from 0, 3 gained).
- Labour and Co-operative Party - 2 seats (up from 1, 1 gained).
Many local politicians have already been chiming in with the conversation about the results on Twitter.
Wera Hobhouse, MP for Bath, was delighted with the results.
The Metro Mayor for the West of England Combined Authority, Dan Norris, didn't make much comment on the one Labour seat lost, but was happy with taking seven seats away from the Conservatives in South Gloucestershire.
Bath and North East Somerset Green Party were also delighted with their results.
